Before 1251 it used to be named Massa San Paolo, it then turned into Massa Lombarda because of several families from Mantova and Brescia housed here while escaping the oppression of Ezzelino da Romano. In 1927 Massa Lombarda hosted the II "Esposizione Nazionale di Frutticoltura" (the national exposition of fruit-growing) which made it the Italian capital of fruit-farming. The Aldo Bonvicini museum is dedicated to fruit-farming and a part of it is about farmers' work and everyday life. |
