Formerly Castrum Fusiniani as property of the Cunio Counts, Fusignano was after ruled by the Este and then by the Pope. The native town of the musician Arcangelo Corelli (1653 - 1713) has been mainly rebuilt after World War II. In the near village of San Savino, the homonymous sanctuary holds a V century monumental Byzantine sarcophagus which is the grave of the saint who evangelized those lands. |
